Core Declaration
A Jhonny decimal system folder structure, containing markdown files.
The Strwbrry Vault is my all-encompassing life assistant, a completing and complementing resource to all facets of my life. It is ever-changing and growing with me. Its declarations are simple and effective, and with the nature of assisting a changing human, it will also morph and change with me.
The core principle guiding its design is the optimization of two key qualities.
- Speed of entry
- Effectiveness of structure
The goal is to strike a balance between these two qualities. For without the balance, there is not much use. Examples as follows:
High speed of entry - Low structure
- Sticky Note
- Google Keep
- Hand-Written note
Low speed of entry - High structure
- A literal database
- LaTeX resource
- Notion Database
So it is the careful balancing of those qualities that in turn make this system useful to me at all.
Why Did I want it
Because after approximately 19 years of human experience, I realized that I would be greatly helped by a note taking system that was carefully crafted and shaped for my exact needs. I made an assumption that by creating these systems, I would allow for myself to more naturally, more easily, and more often explore, learn, remember, and create in ways that I fundamentally desire for myself. A sort of consequential effect where my initial formless actions of laying foundation (A much more passive action) would be revealed as an effective first step into actual effort and progression where I wanted it.
How the System Works
The following is a core “5 step” description of the markdown vault system, with zero assumptions besides what is directly stated.
In Order, This Vault is the Following.
- A root folder is created where desired.
- A structure of folders created, named and numbered following the Johnny Decimal System.
Ten Area folders (00-09, 10-19, 20-29..)
Ten Category folders per area (10, 11, 12..)
ID Folders created as needed (11.03, 11.04, 11.05..)
- Markdown text files occupy the lowest level of these subject folders only.
- The Area [00-09 - Meta] contains all necessary information of the vault.
- Extended application or usage may be declared in [02 - Vault Extensions]
The assumption is made that the only usage or organization of this vault that exists is what is declared in this core document alongside extensions in [02 - Vault Extensions].
